Halloween

Me getting Evan ready for trick or treating ( I went as Troy Polamalu ;) Just needed a wig)

Evan was a skeleton and Zachary was Iron Man

After trick or treating the boys wanted to check out their stash. Zach preferred to pull out his candy one by one and put it in a pile...

While Evan liked the line-up method.

Ahhh the sugar high!

Fall Catch-All

It's been way to long since I've last posted anything here (sorry mom!), so I have quite a bit to catch up on. I'll start with our activities last weekend.

We started out the weekend like this:

Jake was carrying Evan to bed when Zachary got under his feet (kind of like a cat) which made Jake trip. Since he couldn't use his hands to break his fall he fell shoulder first full force into the wall, hence the massive hole! Luckily Evan and Jake were OK and our wall was the only thing with any serious injuries. Thankfully hubby is really handy and was able to repair the wall before the weekend was over.

The next day I took the boys to Spencer Farm to pick out pumpkins and mums. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time until I tried to load everything into my mid-size car. I hate to admit it, but it's really time for a minivan. I drove home with a 50 lb. bush of a mum in the passenger seat, 5 good sized mums in the trunk and both boys had pumpkins under their feet. Shortly into our trip home ladybugs started flying out of the mum and were all over my car. The boys were begging me to save them (the ladybugs not the boys) and had me open up all the windows to help them fly away. They didn't.

On Saturday we took the boys to Zoo Boo. Evan and Zach loved getting dressed up and trick or treating around the zoo. With the cooler temperatures that day the animals were more active and the boys were able to get up close and personal with the cheetahs.

Evan and Zach also had the opportunity to build a bird feeder and a doggie coat hanger while at the zoo.

It was a full weekend but tons of fun!

Evan's 5th Birthday Party

Evan had his 5th Birthday Party today at My Gym. Evan has been waiting for this day for weeks and was so excited this morning he actually woke us up by blowing a whistle in our ears. After our ears stopped ringing the hourly count down began. Evan, Zachary and all of their friends had a great time running, jumping, sliding and playing.

First Dreams

Most mornings Jake will ask the boys if they had good dreams the night before and what they dreamt about. Usually we get the same response from both boys "yes" and "I dreamed about sleeping". This morning Evan told me that he had a dream last night and when I asked him what the dream was about here is what he told me: "All these houses got up to 100 degrees and then they exploded (he makes a big circle with his arms)". He got quiet for a moment and looked down at his feet then looked up at me with sad eyes and he said "Then I couldn't find my toys in any of the houses. I looked and looked."

For a 4 year old this sounds more like a nightmare to me. Which reminds me of the first dream I can remember from my childhood. I must have been about Evan's age. I remember Ernie (from Sesame Street) wearing a sleep mask and then he bit me in the back. I woke up and remember physically feeling a pain in my back. Weird. I guess strange dreams run in the family.

Memorial Day Weekend Fun

On Saturday we packed up the boys and a picnic lunch and headed downtown to see the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade. This was the first time any of us had gone to the parade. We had a great time and found a nice shady spot under a tree to watch the festivities. The boys favorite part was seeing the race cars. I personally always love to see the marching bands and Jake was most excited to see the Purdue marching band and their big drum.

After the parade it was off to the zoo to see the new cheetah exhibit. The cheetah's were a little nervous in their new environment so this was the only picture we could get of them.

We all had a great time and look forward to going to the parade again next year.

Note to Self

Just because it sounds like your 4 year old son in cussing like a sailor in the back of your car doesn't necessarily mean that is the case.

The other day on the way home from school I thought I heard Evan saying f*** then s*** over and over. Jake and I looked at each other like noooo it can't be our sweet little boy with such an awful potty mouth. Just as we were about to question Evan on where he learned such language it became very clear to us what he was trying to say. He was sounding out the word function. Why was he trying to say the word function? Not sure, but at that point I really didn't care, I was just glad that my little boy didn't have a mouth like a biker!
